Donna Henes

Donna Henes is an urban shaman, ritual expert, and author who has received four fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Art and the National Endowment for the arts.

Two years in a row, Donna came to WSW for special community-based residencies to develop a public celebration of light and community spirit. In 1986, Donna mobilized local youth to create sixty 4-foot-wide snowflakes which were hung across downtown streets with webs composed of 6,000 lights (one for each Rosendale resident). In 1987, she created a light-filled parade of floats and local citizens clad in Mylar costumes festooned with flashlights.

Donna lives and works in Brooklyn.
