Student Material List

Explore your fascination with Japanese paper and color in this highly focused class. During the first part of the week we’ll learn all aspects of kozo preparation and Japanese-style sheet forming. Then we’ll add natural dyes and other colorants and experiment with layering color in traditional and improvised ways. Students will also learn techniques for pulp painting on Japanese paper, as well as manipulating and dyeing finished sheets. Whether you already love Japanese sheet forming or have never tried it before, there will be a lot to experiment with. No prior papermaking or dyeing experience is necessary, just a willingness to work hard and have fun.

This class is currently filled. Please call (845) 658-9133 to inquire about the class wait list.

This is the mother technique of all handmade paper. It’s not easy to master, but with Tatiana’s help, no problemo. She’s a technical genius and a fabulous, extremely patient teacher.
