Women’s Studio Workshop’s Summer Art Institute (SAI) is for artists looking to expand their visual vocabulary in printmaking, hand papermaking and book arts. Your teachers are leaders in the field, have extraordinary skill and a passion to share their knowledge of new methods and materials.
Whether in our Binnewater Studios or across the ocean in a lighthouse in Scotland a villa in Tuscany, or an artists’ retreat in Morocco, lush landscape inspires intensive art making. SAI classes are kept small so you can work comfortably and have a productive experience.
This summer’s printmaking classes will feature: Safer Etching Techniques with Kris Sader, Photopolymer with Nancy Diessner, Pressure Printing with Kate McQuillen, Monoprint with Susan Amons, Motivational Intaglio with Shelley Thorstensen, and Letterpress Bootcamp with Diane Jacobs, and the ever-popular collaborative workshop with our neighbors R&F Handmade Paints, Print and Encaustic with Tatana Kellner and Cynthia Winika
The hand papermaking line up also features an Encaustic and Paper class with Ann Marie Kennedy and Cynthia Winika. Ann Marie is also teaching a class in Natural Fiber papermaking. There’s Sculptural Papermaking with Melissa Jay Craig, Mold Making for cast paper or clay with Tatana Kellner and Ruth McKinney Burket, and Japanese Papermaking and Dyes with Tatiana Ginsberg.
Book Arts classes range from Susan Mills’ excellent Full Tilt Bookbinding to Miniature Books with the mini master Jody Williams, Sculptural Books by Merike van Zanton, and a special workshop to help guide you through the mysteries of pastes and glues, Stick With It, by Erin Fletcher.
Our small classes are open to all people. Women’s Studio Workshop seeks to serve a diverse community and welcomes men to study and experience a space run by women.
