The Summer Art Institute (SAI) at Women’s Studio Workshop is a time for you to focus on your work, become energized and inspired, learn new skills, and meet a new community of like-minded artists.
Your teachers are leaders in the field, have extraordinary skill and a passion to share their knowledge of new materials and methods. Our goal is to offer you an opportunity to hone your abilities and have a transformative art experience.
Whether at our studios in the heart of the Hudson Valley, or abroad at a Villa in Italy or a Falconry in Portugal, our community of artists inspire intensive art making. SAI classes are kept small so you can work comfortably and have a productive experience.
Collaboration has become a vital part of our program as we intertwine encaustic, printmaking, and papermaking with the cooperation of our friends at R&F Handmade Paints, the finest manufacturer of oil sticks and encaustics in the US.
What to Expect:
All classes start at 9 am. We break for a catered vegetarian lunch at 12:30 and return to the studio until 4 pm. Students are welcome to work before and after class during our studio hours, 7 am – 11 pm. Classes end Friday at 3 pm. Every Tuesday evening the week’s faculty presents a slide talk about their work.
WSW does not discriminate on any basis in the administration of our educational programming or membership. Participants with special needs are encouraged to contact the Workshop in advance so we can ensure adequate access to our studios and equipment.
Workshop Tuition and Fees:
Tuition and lab fees are indicated with each class listing. WSW members will receive a 10% discount. Not a member? Join WSW now! (Membership discounts are not available for collaborative workshops with R&F Handmade Paints, or for our workshops in Europe.)
Non-refundable deposits of $300 are required to reserve your space. Tuition and lab fees vary according to the needs of the instructor and cost of special materials, inks, etc.
Accommodation & Transportation:
WSW does not provide on-site housing for class participants. There are, however, plenty of options in the surrounding area. Once you have registered, you will be sent our housing suggestions, including Airbnb locations, Bed & Breakfasts, motels & hotels, and rooms in private homes. Rates begin at $50/night, and many are within walking distance of the studio. Transportation to WSW from the airport or bus station can be easily arranged. You may register for SAI online using PayPal, or by calling us at (845) 658-9133. Once you’ve registered, you will be sent a confirmation email containing a receipt of payment. Your deposit will secure a spot in the class until the tuition due date. Any remaining tuition or lab fees will be due in full one month prior to your workshop. A payment reminder will be emailed to students before the due date. If your payment is not received one month prior to your workshop, you may lose your spot in the class.
All workshops have limited enrollment; early registration is recommended.
Wait-listed? After a class is full, students will be placed on a wait-list in the order that registration has been received. If a space becomes available, wait-listed students will be notified. Deposits will be returned for wait-listed students who are not enrolled in the class.
Scholarships are available to a limited number of students based on financial need. Application and supplemental materials are due May 15. Recipients will be notified via email by June 15. Email Katie for a copy of the scholarship application form.
Cancellation and Refund Policy:
If you cancel more than 30 days prior to your workshop start date, then your tuition will be refunded in full, minus the non-refundable $300 tuition deposit.
If you cancel less than 30 days prior to your workshop start date, then the following refund policies apply: three weeks prior to workshop, 50% of tuition will be refunded, minus the deposit; two weeks prior to workshop, neither tuition nor deposit will be refunded.
If Women’s Studio Workshop has to cancel a class for any reason, deposit and tuition will be refunded in full, or can be transferred to another workshop. Classes need a minimum of four students to run, and students will be given four week’s notice if a class has been cancelled for under-enrollment. WSW is not responsible for non-refundable airline tickets purchased by students.
